Fans of the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things, were left in awe on November 28 when co-creator Ross Duffer shared a touching revelation about a new character in the show’s fifth and final season. The initial four episodes of this highly anticipated season were released, igniting speculation about how the series will conclude when the finale airs on December 31.
As viewers await the next episodes, scheduled for release on Christmas Day, they have been engaging with interviews and behind-the-scenes content, eager to absorb every detail before bidding farewell to the beloved series, which features stars such as Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, and Winona Ryder.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ross Duffer disclosed that the character of Miss Harris, portrayed by Hope Hynes Love, has a significant connection to the Duffers’ past. He revealed that she was their high school drama teacher. “High school was rough for me and my brother,” Duffer wrote. “But Hope saw something in us we didn’t see in ourselves — and she helped give us the confidence to not only survive those four years, but to move to LA and chase our dreams.”
Ross emphasized the importance of teachers in shaping lives, stating, “Shoutout to all the teachers out there making a difference. And please… let’s prioritize the arts in schools.” His post quickly attracted an outpouring of affection from fans, with many expressing their enthusiasm in the comments section. One user exclaimed, “OMG this is awesome,” while another commented, “THIS IS SO SPECIAL.”
The Duffer brothers, who were born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, began their journey into filmmaking at a young age, using a Hi8 video camera gifted by their parents, Ann and Allen Duffer. They attended the Duke School for Children, a private institution, before moving on to Charles E. Jordan High School, a public school in their hometown. Their passion for storytelling led them to graduate from Chapman University‘s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts in California in 2007.
Prior to creating Stranger Things, the brothers wrote and directed several short films, paving the way for their groundbreaking series, which has captivated audiences worldwide. As fans prepare for the conclusion of this iconic show, the heartfelt connection between the Duffers and their former teacher adds a layer of sentimentality to the experience, reminding viewers of the powerful impact educators can have on their students’ lives.
