Hollie Strano Returns to Cleveland TV After DUI Recovery Journey

A well-known meteorologist in Cleveland, Hollie Strano, has made her return to television following a challenging period marked by a DUI arrest and her subsequent journey to sobriety. Strano, formerly with WKYC Channel 3, was dismissed in September 2024 after more than two decades with the station. She has now joined WCTU – Cleveland 13 News, a newer outlet focused on community-driven news.

Strano’s arrest occurred in November 2023, when she was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence after a crash near the Towpath Tennis Center in Cuyahoga Falls. Authorities reported that her blood alcohol level was over three times the legal limit at the time of the accident. After pleading guilty, Strano embarked on a public journey toward sobriety, sharing her progress on social media.

While she engaged in freelance weather forecasting for radio stations such as Mix 94.1 in Canton, this marks her first return to a traditional television format. WCTU positions itself as a “community-driven news network,” utilizing digital platforms to reach viewers through its website, YouTube, and various social media channels.

In a promotional segment for her return, Strano humorously expressed her intent to embrace a more authentic version of herself. She discarded an “inauthentic” long black dress to reveal a modern sleeveless version, symbolizing her fresh approach to both her career and personal life.

Matt Greminger, President of Cleveland 13 News, emphasized Strano’s deep connection with the local audience. “Hollie has always had a genuine relationship with Northeast Ohio viewers,” Greminger stated. “Her story is one of perseverance, honesty, and growth. Cleveland 13 is proud to provide a platform where she can continue sharing her passion for weather and for this community.”

In addition to her weather reports, Strano plans to cover a range of news stories and conduct interviews. “People are craving something real,” she remarked. “That’s what I want to bring moving forward.”

During an interview released by the station, Strano candidly reflected on her past. “I will never not be sorry for what happened,” she acknowledged. “I can now look back at it and say that it was 100% one of the worst days of my life, but also one of the best.”

Her recovery journey was further complicated by a cancer diagnosis in 2024, which resulted in two surgeries. Strano credits her support system and her commitment to self-improvement for helping her navigate these challenges. “The creative part of (this) is endless, and I love that,” she shared. “I have no limits. I was limited, but not anymore. So stay tuned.”

With her return to Cleveland television, Strano aims to reconnect with her audience in meaningful ways, offering both weather insights and personal stories that resonate with viewers.
