Mokster Films Unveils Sales for Indonesian Horror Sequel at EFM

Singapore-based Mokster Films has acquired the international rights to the highly anticipated sequel, Dominion Of Darkness 2, and will commence sales at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin. This sequel follows the success of the original film, which was released in 2024 and achieved impressive box office results, amassing over 1.47 million admissions in Indonesia within just 20 days. The first installment ranked among the country’s top horror films, having been sold to 53 territories.

The original film, produced by Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment, presented a unique narrative that delved into themes of Christian exorcism within Indonesia’s predominantly Muslim context. This approach distinguished it from many other horror films that often draw from Islamic traditions. Directed by Rizal Mantovani, known for his work on The Chanting trilogy, the sequel aims to broaden the franchise’s appeal by introducing “higher stakes, deeper theological lore, and elevated supernatural terror.”

In Dominion Of Darkness 2, actors Lukman Sardi and Jerome Kurnia return to portray Catholic exorcists Father Rendra and Father Thomas. The narrative unfolds in a remote town in East Java, where the priests undertake an investigation into a horrifying possession linked to a centuries-old blood pact that awakens a ‘Rephaim,’ an ancient demon referenced in Old Testament scripture. As the Church withdraws its support, the exorcists must confront the malevolent force on their own, testing their faith as they face the threat of global annihilation.

The film is set to release in theaters in October 2026, promising a captivating exploration of its themes and character arcs. Ideosource Entertainment, led by Andi Boediman, has been a significant player in Indonesia’s burgeoning film industry. In 2019, it acquired a majority stake in Paragon Pictures, which is also credited with successful titles such as Losmen Bu Broto and Kalian Pantas Mati.

In addition to Dominion Of Darkness 2, Mokster Films is managing international sales for several other titles at EFM. Among these is the Taiwanese supernatural horror film, The Damp, directed by Fu Tien-yu. The company is also promoting two projects where Nelson Mok, a former WME Independent executive, serves as producer: Phantom by Taiwanese director Lester Hsi and Red Thread by Vietnamese filmmaker Ham Tran.

As the film industry continues to evolve, Mokster Films remains at the forefront, eager to showcase compelling narratives that resonate with international audiences.
