Prime Video’s God of War Series Nears Casting for Key Roles

Prime Video’s upcoming adaptation of the popular video game franchise, God of War, is reportedly making significant strides in its casting process. Industry insider Daniel RPK announced through his Patreon that actors Max Parker and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson are in discussions to portray key characters in the series, specifically Baldur and Thor, respectively.

As of now, no official casting decisions have been made for the main characters, Kratos and Atreus. The series is based on the award-winning game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by PlayStation.

Potential Cast Members and Their Roles

Max Parker, known for his roles as Sergeant Sullivan in Boots and Mikhail Tanner in Vampire Academy, is in talks to take on the role of Baldur. Meanwhile, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, recognized for his performances in Severance, The Deep, and Lady Dynamite, is expected to portray Thor.

In the original God of War game released in 2018, Baldur serves as the main antagonist. He relentlessly pursues Kratos and Atreus on behalf of his father, Odin. His character is deeply complex, as it is revealed that his mother, Freya, cast an invulnerability spell on him. This spell renders him impervious to harm but also robs him of all sensation, leading to his eventual madness and desire for revenge against Freya. Ultimately, Kratos kills Baldur before he can fulfill his vengeful quest.

Thor’s character was previously portrayed by Ryan Hurst in the sequel, God of War: Ragnarök. As Odin’s enforcer, Thor seeks retribution for the deaths of his sons, Magni and Modi, at the hands of Kratos and Atreus. Throughout the game, Thor battles Kratos but ultimately chooses to spare him after a moment of reflection on his responsibilities as a father.
