Twelve songwriters will gather at Trout Lake Hall on December 6, 2023, for an evening dedicated to music that aims to inspire and rally communities. The concert series, titled “Songs of Power & Protest,” is created and hosted by Rose Gerber, a Portland-based artist known for her innovative blend of genres including country, folk, rock, and alt-country.
Gerber, who has made a name for herself as an American roots explorer, will lead a diverse lineup of musicians from across the Pacific Northwest. Each artist will perform original protest songs specifically crafted for this event, alongside a cover of a personal favorite protest anthem. Gerber’s previous collaborations include performances with well-known acts such as Big Richard and Margo Cilker, and she has showcased her talent at notable festivals like Pickathon, Treefort Music Festival, and Jackalope Jamboree.
The upcoming concert marks the second event in this impactful series, which aims to highlight the role of music in social movements. The lineup features a variety of artists, including Matt Mitchell, Jim Brunberg, Crystal Lariza, Erin Adkisson, Zach Markezich, William Surly, Kyle Patrick Kregan, Jordan Krinsky, Shiloh Mae, Tim Karplus, Katie Waterland, and Gerber herself.
According to a press release, “Folk, bluegrass, country, pop — whatever the sound, these songs carry a shared purpose: to move hearts, spark action and remind us that music has always been part of the movement.” This concert offers a unique opportunity for attendees to experience new songs that could resonate with future generations of change-makers and activists.
