West Feliciana Schools Celebrate Young Authors with Annual Awards

West Feliciana Schools has recognized the creativity and talent of its students through its annual Young Authors program, announcing the winners for each grade level in December 2023. This initiative encourages young writers to express themselves and explore their literary skills, culminating in a competitive showcase of original works.

The winners for various grades and categories are as follows:

In the first grade, the top honors went to Jackson Felker for his piece “The Highwayman,” with Rosalyn McGregor and Isabella Hardin following in second and third place with “The Inevitable” and “The Queen’s Jester,” respectively.

For second grade, Ariel Price claimed first place with “Stepsisters,” while Tyler Brian and Josie Gonzalez secured second and third places with “Innocence” and “This One’s Clever.”

In third grade, Addison McKey took first place for “If Only There Was a Mailing Address to Heaven,” followed by Joey Peno and Brody Monson with “Bipolar” and “The Fork in the Road.”

As the competition progressed through the grades, entries continued to impress. For fourth grade, Anya Riley won with “An Unwanted Gift,” while Jenna Holland and Madison Minor earned honors for their works, “The Reclamation of Pluto” and “Blank Ink.”

In fifth grade, Peyton Landry was awarded first place for “The Fallen Angel.” Marley Kador and Harrison Warner followed with “Boarding the Never End” and “Hendiana Jones and the Lost Coffee Pot.”

The recognition continued into the sixth grade, where Sadie Aitken emerged as the top author with “She’s Free.” Lillian Record and Benjamin Morrison achieved second and third places with “Time” and “Tomorrow. Isn’t. Promised.”

Moving on to seventh grade, Anabelle Pilcher won with “The World We Hold Dear,” with Evelyn Pollet and Abbigail Whitaker achieving second and third for “Gifted Burn Out” and “Deciding.”

In eighth grade, Hadley Smith received first place for “Mysterious Amulet,” while Eliana Grimsley and Amirie Reed followed with “Aliens” and “How It Started.”

The Young Authors program fosters an environment where students can thrive in their literary pursuits, providing them the opportunity to showcase their creativity and storytelling abilities. The diverse range of topics and themes explored by the students reflects their unique perspectives and imaginative capabilities.
