Rapper Wiz Khalifa has received a nine-month prison sentence in Romania due to a drug possession charge. The 38-year-old artist, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, was sentenced on December 18, 2025, after being found guilty of possessing 18 grams of cannabis. This ruling follows a year-long legal process stemming from an incident at the Beach, Please! festival in the coastal village of Costinesti in July 2024, according to reports from the Associated Press and Romania’s national news agency, Agerpres.
Khalifa was convicted of “possession of dangerous drugs, without right, for personal consumption.” In April 2025, a lower court originally fined him $830 for illegal possession, but prosecutors contested the decision, seeking a more stringent penalty.
During the performance at the festival, authorities alleged that Khalifa consumed cannabis on stage. The Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) stated that the rapper was found in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis and had smoked some during his act. Despite the charges, Khalifa was not detained immediately following the incident.
In response to the situation, Khalifa expressed his respect for Romania in a post on social media, stating, “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”
This legal trouble coincided with a significant personal milestone for Khalifa. In July 2024, he and his girlfriend, Aimee Aguilar, welcomed their first child together. Aguilar shared her postpartum journey in a TikTok video, providing insight into her recent experiences as a new mother.
Khalifa also has a son, Sebastian, aged 12, from his previous marriage to model Amber Rose. In a candid moment during a January 2024 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, he humorously discussed attending parent-teacher conferences while “stoned,” suggesting that such an approach was more accepted in today’s society.
The rapper’s sentencing marks a notable chapter in his career, intertwining legal challenges and personal milestones. As he faces the consequences of his actions, the public will undoubtedly watch closely how this will impact his future endeavors in the music industry.
