Beloved Community Leader Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs Passes Away at 85

Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs, a dedicated community member and cherished family figure, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 85 years old.

Born on August 25, 1940, in Alhambra, California, Donna was the daughter of Evelyn Farrell and Carl Hoyem. After her father’s untimely death during her childhood, her mother remarried Donald H. Jones, who played a significant role in Donna’s upbringing. The family relocated to North Tustin during her teenage years, where she completed her education at Mater Dei High School and went on to attend Orange Coast College.

Donna dedicated over a decade of her professional life to the Coast Community College District, serving as the student loan and due diligence officer for 13 years. Following her retirement, she and her husband, Donald (Don) Babbs, enjoyed extensive travels around the world, exploring different cultures and landscapes.

A Life of Service and Faith

Beyond her professional commitments, Donna was deeply involved in her local community. She was a devoted member of her church and actively participated in various charitable organizations aimed at helping those in need. Her commitment to her Christian faith was a guiding principle throughout her life.

Donna leaves behind a loving family, including her husband of 65 years, Donald Lee Babbs; three daughters, Leigh Anne Nanci, Kelly Babbs, and Kristal Babbs; and her son-in-law, Thomas Nanci. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Joseph Nanci (Kimberly), Jessica Greubel (John), and Johnathan Babbs (Charlotte), along with seven great-grandchildren. Her brother, Richard Jones, and several sisters-in-law, including Susan Hoyem, Benita Jones, and Liza (Hoyem) Haynes, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl (Jack) Hoyem and William Hoyem.

Memorial Services Scheduled

Funeral services for Donna will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Irvine on December 12, 2025, at 10 a.m.. The service will be followed by an interment ceremony and a reception, allowing family and friends to gather in celebration of her life.

Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs will be remembered not only for her professional achievements but also for her unwavering commitment to her family and community. Her legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
