Community Celebrates James Dosii’s Return After Health Battle

An 11-year-old boy from Delaware County, Pennsylvania, received a heartfelt welcome home after a lengthy health battle. James Dosii, a sixth-grader at Darby Township School, was discharged following nearly three months of treatment for a serious brain infection that began with sinus pain on December 25, 2023.

On Friday, the school community organized a celebration to honor James’s return. The event featured an escort from the Collingdale Fire Department, emphasizing the collective support for the Dosii family. James expressed his surprise and gratitude, stating, “I never actually thought that this was gonna happen,” as he reunited with friends, classmates, and teachers.

James’s health journey began on Christmas morning when he experienced worsening sinus pain. His condition escalated quickly, leading to severe headaches and a fever, necessitating emergency care. “I had to go to the hospital because of a brain infection. It went up to my brain, spread too fast, made my brain swell,” he explained. His mother described the situation as “devastating” and “unexpected,” showcasing the emotional toll the ordeal took on their family.

Throughout his treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), both James and his mother were grateful for the medical care they received. James specifically thanked the nurses and doctors for their support, particularly highlighting the assistance from the neuropsychology team.

Collingdale Mayor Donna Matteo Spadea recognized the community’s need to support the Dosii family during this challenging time. She spearheaded efforts to collect donations amounting to $2,000, along with gift cards to local stores such as Shop Rite and Wawa. “I feel grateful that my community came together just to show how much they care about my brother,” said James’s sister, Jenmatee Dosii, who also attends Darby Township School.

After the warm welcome, the Collingdale Fire Department transported James home, allowing him to rest and recuperate. As of now, it remains uncertain when he will return to school. The solidarity displayed by the community has left a lasting impact on the Dosii family, reinforcing the importance of support during difficult times.
