Actress and author Evangeline Lilly has provided a poignant health update, revealing the lasting effects of a traumatic brain injury sustained during a fall last year. In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, Lilly disclosed that her brain is functioning at a decreased capacity, stating, “Almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity.”
The injury occurred in May 2022 when Lilly fainted and struck her head on a boulder while at the beach. Known for her prominent roles, particularly as Kate Austen in the acclaimed television series Lost and as Hope van Dyne, also known as Wasp, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lilly has faced significant challenges since the incident.
Despite the severity of her condition, Lilly expressed a determined outlook. “I do have brain damage from the [traumatic brain injury] and possibly other factors going on,” she stated, revealing the extent of her struggles. Fellow actor Michelle Pfeiffer showed her support in the comments, calling Lilly “a warrior” and affirming, “Nothing—not even this will defeat you, my friend.” Actress Alyssa Milano also offered her condolences, highlighting the solidarity among their community.
Lilly announced her decision to step back from acting last year, making this update particularly significant for her fans and colleagues. Despite the negative results from her brain scans, she maintains an optimistic attitude. “I am determined to embark on the hard work of fixing it,” she said, reflecting her resilience in the face of adversity.
In closing her message, Lilly expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue living. “Feeling extraordinarily grateful and blessed to be able to play one more day, one more year, on this beautiful living planet,” she concluded, demonstrating her commitment to recovery and appreciation for life.
Lilly’s journey serves as a reminder of the challenges many face following traumatic injuries and the importance of support from friends and loved ones during recovery.
