Residents of Talo’fo’fo’ will have access to free health services on November 21, 2023, as part of the Department of Public Health and Social Services’ (DPHSS) ongoing Village Outreach Initiative. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jeromy Newby Community Youth Center, providing valuable health resources to families and individuals.
Among the services available will be free immunizations for children aged 2 months to 18 years. Those enrolled in Medicaid or the Medical Indigent Program (MIP), as well as uninsured children, are eligible to receive vaccines including DTaP, IPV, Hep B, Hep A, Hib, Prevnar, MMR, Tdap, Td, MCV, HPV, and the annual flu shot, while supplies last. Notably, tuberculosis (TB) skin tests will not be provided, as they are not classified as vaccinations.
In addition to immunizations, the outreach will offer free physical exams for both adults and children. Educational resources will cover essential topics such as diabetes management, tobacco cessation, and hypertension awareness. Attendees can also learn about eligibility for programs like breast and cervical cancer screening, as well as the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program.
Those seeking assistance with vital statistics—including marriage, birth, and death certificates—can receive information at the event. Furthermore, representatives will be on hand to discuss mental health services, primary care options available at Community Health Centers, aging programs under Title III, and doula services provided by the Bureau of Women’s Affairs.
To take advantage of the immunization services, parents or guardians should bring several key documents. A child’s birth certificate and current shot record are necessary, and children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. If another adult accompanies the child, they must present legal documentation or written authorization from the parent, along with a valid photo ID.
Why This Matters
This outreach reflects DPHSS’s commitment to making health and wellness services more accessible to all residents. By collaborating with village mayors and local organizations, Public Health aims to ensure that community members can easily access healthcare, ask questions, and stay informed about health-related issues.
Looking ahead, while this event marks the final outreach for the year, DPHSS plans to continue its efforts into 2026. An announcement for the next Village Outreach is expected in February, promising another set of free health and social services for the community. For ongoing updates on future outreach events and health initiatives, residents can follow DPHSS on Instagram at @dphssguam and on Facebook at @guamdphss, or visit their website at dphss.guam.gov.
