A significant recall has been initiated by Nat’s Nuts, a nut company based in Rochester, New York, affecting approximately 600 bags of their Cinnamon Whiskey Pecans. The recall is due to the potential presence of undeclared cashews, which pose a serious health risk for individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities to cashews.

The affected products were distributed between October 8 and October 16, 2023, to retail stores across several states, including Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Ohio, Nevada, Florida, and Wisconsin. Additionally, the pecans were sold on Amazon from October 9 to October 16.

Details of the Recall

The Cinnamon Whiskey Pecans are packaged in 4-ounce bags characterized by black and orange colors, bearing the UPC 860002146720, lot code 1.22, and a best-by date of September 29, 2026. The recall was prompted after a retailer discovered cashews mixed in with the pecans during a sampling event. A subsequent investigation revealed that the issue was linked to a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has emphasized that individuals with an allergy to cashews may experience serious or even life-threatening reactions if they consume the affected pecans. As of now, no illnesses related to the recalled product have been reported.

Consumer Guidance and Next Steps

Consumers who purchased the Cinnamon Whiskey Pecans are advised to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. For further inquiries, Nat’s Nuts can be contacted at 585-310-0157 during business hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Retailers have also been instructed to remove the affected products from their shelves promptly to safeguard public health.

This recall underscores the importance of clear labeling and adherence to food safety standards. The company is taking steps to address the issue and prevent future occurrences, ensuring consumer safety remains a top priority.
