Mary Ruth Ingleby, a beloved educator and advocate, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 15, 2025, at the age of 75 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born on June 22, 1950, in Salt Lake City, she was the third of six children in the family of Don and Lavon Ingleby.

Mary’s early life was marked by a significant event at the age of sixteen when she made the heart-wrenching decision to give up her first child for adoption. This experience profoundly influenced her trajectory, igniting a lifelong passion for teaching. She pursued an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Cabrillo College, dedicating many years to nurturing and educating young children, particularly those aged three to five. Among her students was her second son, Damian, who developed a lasting love for reading and learning under her guidance.

After relocating to Santa Cruz, Mary found her home in a community she cherished for over 53 years. Her love for the ocean and beach complemented her deep compassion for animals and advocacy for minority rights. She dedicated significant time and resources to various causes, reflecting her commitment to helping those in need.

Mary’s vibrant spirit extended beyond her advocacy; she was also an enthusiastic participant in music and the arts. Throughout her life, she was involved in several choirs and singing duos, ensuring that music was a constant presence in her home.

In a poignant chapter of her life, Mary reconnected with her first child, Bill, allowing them to form a meaningful relationship until his untimely passing in his mid-30s. She is survived by her second son, Damian, and her younger sister, Colette, who will remember her as a guiding light and a source of unconditional love.

A small memorial gathering in her honor is scheduled for October 18, 2025, at Seacliff State Beach at 12:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life and legacy. For further information, those interested can contact 406-552-9696 or email [email protected].
