Blair McNamara, an assistant professor in the Gynecologic Oncology Division at Yale School of Medicine, is making significant strides in cancer care. After graduating from Yale in 2018, she returned in 2022 as a clinical fellow, bringing with her a deep commitment to improving the lives of patients facing gynecologic cancers.

Her background includes completing her residency at the University of California, San Francisco, where she honed her skills in clinical outcomes and quality improvement. “I became very interested in thinking through systems and how we can adjust them to be more evidence-based,” she explained, highlighting her focus on enhancing patient outcomes.
She is particularly passionate about the concept of survivorship, which varies significantly among patients. At Yale, she appreciates the institution’s approach to addressing the long-term effects of cancer treatment. “Survivorship is a combination of ‘How can we get you back to where you were pre-cancer?’ and ‘How can we help you deal with the ongoing side effects?’” McNamara stated. A Return to Yale and a Lifelong Passion for Learning
Originally from the East Coast, McNamara felt a strong pull to return after her time in California. “I am an East Coaster at heart and felt very drawn to come back closer to family and to the seasons,” she said. Her previous experiences at Yale instilled in her a desire to contribute to an institution renowned for its advancements in medical and surgical research in gynecologic oncology.
Outside of her professional life, McNamara is a dedicated hobbyist. She has cultivated a love for crafting and learning new skills, including knitting, sewing, and woodworking. This creative outlet not only enriches her personal life but also fuels her enthusiasm for continuous learning and exploration.
