The community of Picayune, Mississippi, is mourning the loss of Dexter Bernard Burnett, who passed away at the age of 61 on January 4, 2026, at Highland Community Hospital. Surrounded by his loving family, Burnett’s passing has left a profound impact on those who knew him.
Funeral services are scheduled for January 17, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Outreach Ministries, located at 499 Jarrell Street, Picayune, MS 39466. A visitation will precede the service, taking place one hour prior, and an additional visitation will be held on January 16, 2026, at Brown’s Funeral Home, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.. The service will be officiated by Pastor Carl Flowers, and interment will follow at New Palestine Cemetery.
Born on August 15, 1964, to the late Delos and Marvis Burnett, Dexter was a proud alumnus of Picayune Memorial High School, where he also played as a member of the Maroon Tide football team. Known for his strong work ethic, he dedicated his life to various trades, including welding, mechanics, construction, and tree removal. Dexter’s willingness to lend a hand to those in need made him a beloved figure in his community.
Outside of work, Dexter had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and car racing, activities that brought him joy and relaxation. His zest for life and love for nature resonated with family and friends alike.
Dexter is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Evelyn Burnett, and their children: Cindy Waller Burnett, Jessica Lewis, Keisha Waller, and Justin Waller. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, along with a multitude of relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
