First Step 4 Life is inviting the community to an open house today, March 15, 2024, from noon to 15:00 at its recovery center located at 1448 G St. in Lewiston. The event aims to raise awareness about the free resources and services available to residents, with food provided for attendees.
Astahna Adkins, the center’s manager, expressed her hope that more individuals will discover the support available. The center offers a variety of services, including support groups tailored for veterans and programs designed for individuals reintegrating into society after incarceration. Additionally, mental health resources, parenting classes, and recovery coaching are provided by those who have firsthand experience in overcoming challenges associated with recovery.
Adkins emphasized the importance of lived experiences in the recovery process, stating, “When you have lived experiences, you can sympathize with them and understand what they’re going through, or how they’re feeling, or what struggles they’re gonna face.” This empathetic approach aims to create a supportive environment for those seeking help.
In addition to the aforementioned services, the recovery center features a clothing closet and a computer lab. It also organizes various community activities, including family game nights, to foster a sense of belonging among participants. These initiatives contribute to the center’s mission of providing a comprehensive support system for those in need.
The center collaborates with several local organizations, including CHAS Health, Snake River Community Clinic, drug treatment courts, and the Department of Corrections. Such partnerships enhance the center’s ability to connect individuals with essential resources and services.
Adkins hopes that the open house will encourage more community members to take advantage of the free services available. “We’re not gonna turn away somebody if we can try to help them find recovery,” she stated, reinforcing the center’s commitment to supporting individuals on their recovery journey.
