Judge Yew and Dr. Hathi Honored at Notre Dame’s Women of Impact Luncheon

The annual Women of Impact luncheon at Notre Dame High School in San Jose celebrated two distinguished honorees: Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Erica Yew and health care leader Dr. Sejal Hathi. Both women share a profound connection as godmother and goddaughter, a relationship that added a personal touch to the event held at the Signia by Hilton on October 17, 2025.
Before an audience of nearly 400 attendees, Hathi, a 2009 graduate of Notre Dame High, revealed this heartfelt connection, stating, “It was a total coincidence that we were both honored this year.” The event not only recognized their individual achievements but also underscored the bonds of friendship and mentorship that have shaped their lives.
Hathi expressed pride in her godmother’s accomplishments, noting that Yew is “one of the earliest friends that my mother cherished upon arriving to this country.” She reflected on the significance of honoring Yew, stating, “To witness Judge Yew now, to honor her here, to see her stand in her own power, is to celebrate my childhood, the dreams that their generation cherished for me and for all those that would come after.”
Yew made history as the first Asian American woman appointed to the Santa Clara County Superior Court in October 2001. This year, she also received a Community Heroes Award from the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Board, recognizing her contributions to justice and community well-being. Yew shared that her bond with Hathi’s mother began in the same San Jose law office, where they connected as the only two women of color.
The Women of Impact luncheon has been a vital fundraising event since 2009, aimed at providing tuition assistance for students at Notre Dame High School, which will celebrate its 175th anniversary next year. Head of School Ashley Rae Mathis emphasized the importance of sharing women’s stories, stating, “There is power in having women tell women’s stories.”
Before the luncheon, Yew and Hathi engaged with students, discussing their career paths, perspectives on justice, and the importance of women’s leadership. Their stories resonated with the audience, highlighting the impact of mentorship and support across generations.
The event not only honored the achievements of Yew and Hathi but also served as a reminder of the significance of community and the role of women in shaping future leaders. The ongoing support for programs like Women of Impact continues to empower young women, fostering a new generation of leaders.
