Kent Hamilton Honored as Southeastern Farmer of the Year

Kent Hamilton, CEO of Southern Valley Fruit and Vegetable, Inc., received the prestigious title of **2025 Southeastern Farmer of the Year** during the Sunbelt Expo held in Moultrie, Georgia, on **October 17, 2025**. The announcement was made at the Annual Willie B. Withers Legislative Luncheon, where Hamilton’s achievement was met with a standing ovation, showcasing the pride of Colquitt County and the agricultural community.
This year marked a notable occasion for Georgia, as it was designated the **Spotlight State** at the Sunbelt Expo. Hamilton’s recognition as a leading farmer not only highlights his individual accomplishments but also reflects positively on the state’s agricultural industry. In his acceptance speech, Hamilton expressed his profound gratitude, saying, “Wow! What an honor, y’all. What an honor and what an accomplishment.”
Hamilton shared a personal story that shaped his journey into farming. He recalled a family tragedy that occurred when he and his brother began farming together in the mid-1980s. Tragically, his brother lost his life in a farming accident in **1987**, which deeply impacted Hamilton’s life and career. “So, I want to dedicate this to him, to my older brother,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of family in his journey.
He continued by thanking his **Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ**, attributing much of his success to his faith. “It’s been 90% him and 10% me,” he remarked humbly. Hamilton also expressed appreciation for the freedoms afforded to him in the United States, recognizing the sacrifices made by military personnel that allow him to pursue his passion for farming.
Hamilton paid tribute to his parents, particularly his late father, who passed away in **1990** before witnessing the success of their farming operation. He acknowledged his mother as a vital partner in the business, stating, “For a lot of years, she worked hard. She promoted Southern Valley Fruit and Vegetable.”
In his speech, Hamilton highlighted the support from his family, particularly his wife, Pam, who he described as a “cheerleader in the background.” He recognized the sacrifices made by his children, Courtney, Austin, Kaylee, and Presley, who have supported him throughout his career.
Hamilton also thanked the dedicated team at Hamilton Growers and Southern Valley, acknowledging the collective effort that contributed to his recognition. “It’s certainly a team effort for me to be standing here where I’m standing today,” he said, underscoring the collaborative nature of success in agriculture.
The event concluded with Hamilton expressing his gratitude to **Chip Blalock**, the executive director of the Sunbelt Expo, and the organization for hosting the Southeastern Farmer of the Year program. He appreciated the opportunity to meet fellow contestants, remarking, “There’s a lot of competition in the field, and I’m just humbled to be selected as the final winner.”
Hamilton’s recognition serves as an inspiration for many in the agricultural sector, reflecting the resilience and dedication that characterizes farmers across the region.
