SGMC Health has awarded Caitlin Edwards, a health unit coordinator in the Smith Northview Emergency Department, the prestigious Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award for October 2023. This honor is given to non-nursing staff who exhibit outstanding dedication, teamwork, and compassion in supporting the nursing teams at SGMC Health.
Edwards was recognized for her exceptional response when she encountered a patient in distress who was waiting to be registered while experiencing severe chest pain. Demonstrating remarkable intuition and quick action, she promptly directed the patient into a treatment room and completed the intake process there. Her swift decision-making was crucial in ensuring that the patient received a test which identified a life-threatening condition that required immediate medical intervention.
Exceptional Care and Quick Thinking
According to SGMC Health, Edwards’ ability to assess the urgency of the situation significantly expedited the care process, enabling the patient to receive critical treatment without delay. This incident not only highlights her dedication but also underscores the vital role that non-nursing staff play in patient outcomes.
The BEE Award is presented monthly to staff members such as patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants who exemplify extraordinary dedication. Nominees are evaluated based on criteria including leadership, attitude, and clinical support skills, ensuring that those who go above and beyond are recognized for their contributions.
Commitment to Recognition and Support
SGMC Health promotes various recognition programs designed to honor employees who embody the organization’s core values of “Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness.” The BEE Award is one such initiative that aims to highlight the essential support provided by non-nursing staff, contributing to the overall care experience of patients.
