Dan Ericson, Respected Real Estate Leader, Passes at 77

Dan Ericson, a cherished figure in the South Bay community and a respected real estate professional, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Surrounded by loved ones, his departure marks the end of a life dedicated to family, mentorship, and community engagement.

Born on October 26, 1948, in Redondo Beach, Dan was raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson. He attended Aviation High School, where he showcased his athletic talent in baseball and basketball, earning the title of Homecoming King. After completing his studies at El Camino College, he was recruited to play volleyball at San Diego State University, furthering his passion for sports.

Dan’s commitment to service was evident in his role as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, where he served with honor. Following his military service, he transitioned into the aerospace industry before discovering his true passion in real estate. Over the years, he built a successful career in the South Bay, recognized for his integrity and dedication to mentoring young realtors.

In 1980, Dan married Cetha Walkington at Neighborhood Church. The couple created a nurturing home for their two children, Sten and Kirstin, and later welcomed four grandchildren. Dan’s love for family was evident in his roles as a devoted father and adoring grandfather.

A Life of Humor and Community Service

Dan was well-known for his kind and gentle nature, complemented by a playful sense of humor. He enjoyed wordplay and clever jokes that often surprised those around him, always delivered with his trademark warmth. His love for the ocean was reflected in his hobbies of surfing, fishing, and sailing, which he maintained throughout his life.

For over 40 years, Dan was an active parishioner at American Martyrs Church, where he fostered deep connections within the community. His legacy of kindness and mentorship left a lasting impact on many lives. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha, who passed away earlier.

Dan is survived by his children, Sten and Kirstin, and his four grandchildren, Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.

Celebration of Life and Memorial Contributions

A funeral Mass and celebration of life will be held at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Prior to the service, a paddle out will take place at 10:00 a.m. on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach, where all are welcome to attend in his memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting those in need, reflecting Dan’s commitment to giving back to the community he loved. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him.
