Edward Holland Jr. Remembered for Military Service and Family Legacy

Edward Holland Jr., a distinguished veteran and beloved family man, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 98. He leaves behind a rich legacy marked by military service and a close-knit family.

Born in Liberty Hill, Texas, in 1927, Edward joined the US Navy at the age of 16 in 1943. His service during World War II included time spent on a floating drydock in the South Pacific until the war concluded in 1945. Upon returning to San Antonio, he completed his high school education before enlisting in the US Air Force in 1947.

While stationed at the Pentagon, Edward met his first wife, Mary Anna Jane Hunter. Together, they welcomed three children: Jan Creed, Beth Ann Burdick, and Bruce Holland. Edward enjoyed a successful military career, retiring in 1964 after dedicating over two decades to service. Following his retirement, he transitioned to a civilian career as a database administrator, working in California and later at Cornell University in New York.

Community Engagement and Family Life

Edward’s commitment to community service continued after his military career. He became a member of Los Angeles Harbor Lodge No. 332 and joined the Point Fermin Chapter 512, O.E.S.. An active member of the Masons for over 50 years, he served as Worshipful Master in 1977 and held the position of Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star Chapter nine times.

Mary Anna Jane Hunter passed away in 1982, but Edward found love again when he met Laurel at an Eastern Star meeting. They married in 1984 and shared 41 years together, enjoying retirement and building a family that now spans five generations.

At the time of his death, Edward was surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, Laurel, daughters Jan and Beth, and son Bruce. His family also includes grandchildren Charissa Franklin (and husband Seth), Kyle Holland, Joel Holland, Courtney Burdick, and Bryanna Burdick. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Kaylee Holland, Kyler Holland, Conner Franklin, Ethan Kline, Oliver Austin, Anthony Holland (and wife Alexis), and Seth Holland, as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Anthony Holland Junior and Addlyn Holland.

Memorial Services

Funeral services for Edward Holland Jr. will take place at Green Hills Mortuary, located at 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. Visitation is scheduled for October 23, 2025, from 16:00 to 20:00, with the funeral service set for October 24, 2025, at 11:30.

Edward Holland Jr. will be remembered not only for his military contributions but also for the profound impact he had on his family and community. His legacy is one of dedication, love, and service that will resonate for generations to come.
