Remembering John Davidson: A Life Full of Love and Adventure

John Wayne Davidson, a beloved family man and dedicated firefighter, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories. Born in San Pedro, California, to Cleo and John Davidson, he was the eldest of three brothers and grew up enjoying outdoor activities with his family, including camping and fishing.

John attended White Point, Dana, and San Pedro High School, where he became known for his athleticism as a member of the swim team. It was during these formative years that he met Laureen Demaria. The two graduated together in the Class of 1969 and embarked on a lifelong journey together. John began working at the San Pedro News-Pilot, following in his father’s footsteps, while still a student.

Family Life and Career

On October 2, 1971, John and Laureen exchanged vows, marking the start of a family that would grow to include their daughter, Kimmy, born in 1973. The family shared many joyful moments at ‘the river,’ where John felt most at home. His passions included water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing, and, above all, fishing.

In 1977, John joined the family business when his father-in-law, Anthony Demaria Sr., founded Demaria Electric. John’s intelligence and work ethic made him a valued employee as he supported his father-in-law in various capacities. In 1984, seeking a change, the family moved to Bullhead City, Arizona, which fulfilled a long-held dream for John. There, he became a firefighter, ultimately rising to the rank of Battalion Chief, while also starting his own venture, Davidson Electric.

In Bullhead City, John constructed his own home and continued to assist as needed at Demaria Electric back in San Pedro. Though he worked diligently, he also embraced the opportunities for leisure that life by the water provided. Fishing remained his favorite pastime, and he frequently hosted gatherings for family and friends.

Legacy of Love and Community

John’s family traditions included the annual ‘Bullhead Easter Bunny Hop,’ where relatives gathered to celebrate on the lake, creating lasting memories that would be cherished by all. John was deeply devoted to his family, including his daughter Kimmy, her husband David Hansen, and his grandchildren, Dalton and Renn. His love extended beyond his immediate family, impacting friends and relatives alike.

“A great man, a great husband, father, son, brother, and friend,” reflects Laureen. “John loved us all, and we loved him so much.”

As the community mourns the loss of John Davidson, they remember him not just as a dedicated worker and family man, but as someone who lived life to the fullest. His passion for fishing, combined with his commitment to family and community, will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. John, may you catch that Big Bass in the sky.
