Ferriday High School’s varsity basketball teams showcased their dominance at the Rayville Tournament, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams securing victories over Tensas Parish High School on December 29, 2023. The Ferriday Lady Trojans decisively defeated the Tensas Parish Lady Panthers 68-29, improving their tournament record to 2-0.
In the girls’ match, Ferriday established a strong lead early on, finishing the first quarter ahead 22-12. Their defensive performance intensified in the second quarter, where they outscored Tensas Parish 24-4, resulting in a commanding 46-16 halftime advantage. Despite a brief resurgence from the Lady Panthers in the third quarter, where they outscored Ferriday 8-5, the Lady Trojans maintained control of the game.
The final quarter saw Ferriday regain momentum, scoring 17 points while limiting Tensas Parish to just five. A’Ziyah Jefferson was the standout performer, leading all scorers with 26 points. Chermika Jones contributed 15 points, while Cherish Early added 12. McKenzie Clay and Shyzerria Scott each contributed six, and Zemi Milligan added three. On the opposing side, Tensas Parish was led by Abrielle Hill, who scored 12 points, with Autrice Vaughn adding six points.
Ferriday’s victory improved their overall record to 7-2. Following this match, they faced the host team, the Rayville High School Lady Hornets, on December 30, 2023. The outcome of that game was not disclosed at the time of reporting.
Boys’ Team Continues Winning Streak
In the boys’ tournament, the Ferriday Trojans, ranked No. 1 in the LHSAA Non-Select Division IV, also displayed impressive form. They secured a commanding 91-35 victory over the Tensas Parish Panthers, following an earlier upset win against Wossman High School.
The Trojans took an early lead of 22-10 after the first quarter. Although Tensas Parish attempted to narrow the gap, Ferriday held a 49-33 lead at halftime. The second half proved to be a different story, as Ferriday outscored Tensas Parish 25-11 in the third quarter, extending their lead to 74-44. The Trojans maintained their momentum, finishing the game with a 17-9 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Five players from Ferriday finished in double figures, with Macia Maxon, Robert Taylor, and Jammion Woods each contributing 12 points. BeBe Terrell and C.J. Washington added 10 points apiece. For Tensas Parish, D. Percy led with 17 points, while A. Brown recorded 13 points.
With this victory, the Ferriday Trojans improved their overall record to an impressive 13-0. They are set to compete next at the Jefferson County Shootout in Fayette against South Pike High School on December 27, 2023, at 15:00 local time.
