American skier Lindsey Vonn successfully underwent her third surgery on her broken left leg following a crash during the downhill event at the Milan Cortina Games on February 6, 2026. Vonn shared her recovery progress through an Instagram post, where she appeared in her hospital bed giving a thumbs up, with a metal frame attached to her leg.
In her update, Vonn expressed, “I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful. Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago.” She acknowledged the slow progress of her recovery but reassured her followers, stating, “I know I’ll be ok.”
The 41-year-old skier sustained a complex tibia fracture just 13 seconds into her run during the race. Following the incident, she was airlifted to a hospital in Treviso. On February 7, she disclosed that the injury, while currently stable, would necessitate multiple surgeries to achieve proper healing.
Vonn’s father, Alan Kildow, informed The Associated Press that she is constantly surrounded by family in the hospital. Vonn expressed gratitude towards the medical staff, friends, and family who have supported her, as well as the “beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world.”
Additionally, she congratulated her teammates and all Team USA athletes, noting that their efforts inspire her during this challenging time.
As Vonn continues her recovery journey, her fans and fellow athletes are rallying behind her, demonstrating the strong sense of community within the sport.
