Patterson Park Skating Rink Reopens for Final Season This Saturday

The Mimi DiPietro Skating Center in Patterson Park is set to reopen for its final season on Saturday, November 4, 2026, following essential electrical repairs. Baltimore City Recreation and Parks has announced a public skating session from 15:00 to 17:00, offering complimentary hot cider and hot chocolate to celebrate the rink’s return.

Known locally as the Mimi Dome, this facility has been a beloved part of the East Baltimore community for nearly 40 years. City officials expressed gratitude to residents for their patience during the repair work, which was crucial for ensuring safety before the skating season began.

Scheduled Skating Sessions and Ongoing Oversight

The skating sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 14:00, and on Fridays through Sundays from 15:00 to 17:00. City inspectors will maintain oversight of the rink throughout the season, with the possibility of additional closures if safety concerns arise.

Long-standing structural issues have plagued the rink for years, with concerns regarding the foundation, dome integrity, and soil movement first identified in the 1998 Patterson Park Master Plan. In November 2023, city officials announced that the skating center will close permanently at the end of this season.

The estimated cost to construct a new ice rink ranges from $5 million to $10 million. City leaders are committed to exploring potential funding models for a replacement facility once the current season concludes.

As the community gears up for the final season at the Mimi DiPietro Skating Center, residents are encouraged to participate in the last skating opportunities at this historic venue.
