Search Expands for Missing Cornelius Elijah Allen in Natchez

Search operations are intensifying for Cornelius Elijah Allen, reported missing since February 25, 2024. Allen’s vehicle, a 2017 black Volkswagen Tiguan with Mississippi tag 910 CVB, was found abandoned in Natchez, near the intersection of D.A. Biglane Road and Canal Street, shortly after he was reported missing. The vehicle was located in the early hours of February 26 before it was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.

Following the discovery of Allen’s abandoned vehicle, investigators expanded their search efforts after finding his car keys on the bank of the Mississippi River at the Natchez Port on February 27. This led to an intensified search of the river and surrounding wooded areas, prompting local authorities to request public assistance.

Search Efforts Continue

As of today, the search has reached Day 4, with operations resuming at approximately 07:00. Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten reported that local business owner Tate Hobdy generously provided aerial support, assisting search teams by flying over the river and offering a full view of the terrain. Ground search teams from Adams County Search and Rescue are also continuing their efforts along the riverbank, focusing on areas that are difficult to access by vehicle or ATV.

Sheriff Patten described the terrain as extremely dense and challenging, contributing to the difficulty of the search. He likened the effort to “finding a needle in a haystack.” Search teams are coordinating their efforts to cover as much ground as possible, alternating between riverbanks and wooded areas.

Public Vigilance Requested

Sheriff Patten emphasized the need for community vigilance during this search. While the public is not currently asked to join the search efforts, individuals who frequent the area, such as fishermen, hunters, barge operators, or boaters, are encouraged to remain alert. “If you observe anything unusual along the riverbanks, in wooded areas, or along the water, please report it immediately,” Patten stated.

Despite the discovery of Allen’s keys, authorities have yet to find confirmed evidence that he entered the river. Investigators are considering all possible scenarios, including the chance that someone may have given him a ride after he left his vehicle. The sheriff urged residents to stay aware of their surroundings, as even minor information could be crucial in locating Allen.

“If you see something, please say something,” Patten added.
