95-Year-Old Marjorie Sack Hobday Passes Away Surrounded by Family

UPDATE: Marjorie Sack Hobday, a beloved figure in Burnt Hills, NY, has passed away at the age of 95. She died peacefully on October 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, marking the end of a remarkable life filled with music, creativity, and community engagement.

Hobday, born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, was the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise (Hollins) Sack. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, and her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack. Marjorie leaves behind a legacy of love and artistic passion that touched many lives.

Known for her deep-rooted love of music, Marjorie was an active participant in various musical groups, including the Schenectady Choral Society and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. Together with Richard, they enriched their community through their musical talents, lending their voices to church choirs across the region, including the Calvary Church choir, which became their spiritual home.

Marjorie’s life was shaped by her experiences during the Great Depression, instilling in her a sense of resourcefulness and creativity. She was not only a talented musician but also an avid gardener, finding joy in nurturing beauty in her surroundings. The couple shared cherished summers at their camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir, where they created lasting memories filled with wildlife and outdoor adventures.

A passionate artist and writer, Marjorie and Richard hosted an annual Holiday Art Show Open House for more than 40 years, showcasing their work and bringing the community together. Her grace, creativity, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.

Marjorie is survived by her son, Gordon (Carol) Hobday; daughters, Wendy (Charles) Haugh and JoAnn (Richard) Massad; grandchildren, Katherine, Anne, Henry, Joshua (Elizabeth), Zachary (Andrea), and Nicholas (Monica); and great-grandchildren, Lilliana, Maxwell, and Freya. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, a dear sister-in-law, Virginia Sack, and her kind neighbor, David Vasko.

All are invited to pay their respects at a Mass scheduled for Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. After the service, a reception will be held in the church hall. Marjorie will be laid to rest with her husband in the Calvary Episcopal Church Cemetery.
