Altadena Micro Farm Reopens After Devastating Eaton Fire

URGENT UPDATE: A beloved micro farm in Altadena has officially reopened to the community just months after suffering devastating losses during the Eaton Fire. The family-run business, Experience Fable, invites visitors to reconnect with animals including chickens, sheep, and goats, marking a significant step in their rebuilding journey.

The Chavez family, led by White and Joey Chavez, was forced to evacuate their home along with 70 animals as flames ravaged their property. Thanks to a timely $10,000 grant from LISC LA, supported by Wells Fargo, they have begun reconstructing their farm and providing a safe haven for their animals.

“We are incredibly grateful for the community support,” White stated. “That grant came at the perfect time, allowing us to build new fencing and create spaces for our animals.” The resilience of the farm is a testament to the community’s spirit and determination.

During the chaos of the evacuation, the animals were dispersed to various temporary shelters, including Venice Beach and the LA Equestrian Center, before being relocated to San Diego. “We literally had turkeys in a carport and goats at the equestrian center,” White recalled.

Now, the family is focused on creating a welcoming environment for visitors. “This is home. We want to find the right place here in the foothills where people can come and enjoy our farm regularly,” White emphasized.

Starting this week, Experience Fable will be open once a week for small local groups as they search for a more permanent location in Altadena. This initiative not only brings back joy to the community but also reconnects families with nature and farm life.

As the Chavez family continues to rebuild their lives, their story of resilience resonates deeply with those affected by wildfires across the region. The reopening of Experience Fable serves as a beacon of hope, illustrating the power of community and support in overcoming adversity.
