Beloved Community Figure Jeanne Ruth Passes Away at 73

URGENT UPDATE: The community mourns the loss of Betty Jean “Jeanne” Ruth, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 29, 2025, at Diamond Willow in Cloquet, MN. Jeanne, aged 73, was a cherished figure known for her warmth and kindness.

Born on March 23, 1952, in Alexandria, MN, Jeanne was the youngest of four children raised in a lively family. She spent most of her formative years in ORR, MN, and graduated from Proctor High School in 1970. Her strong ties to her hometown were evident as she often attended reunions, maintaining lifelong friendships.

Jeanne’s love story began in 1973 when she met her husband, Norman “Norm” Ruth. They married on May 4, 1974, enjoying 36 years together until Norm’s sudden passing in 2010. Jeanne’s pride and joy were her grandsons, Alex and Eli, who filled her life with happiness and laughter. The trio shared countless moments, including attending UMD hockey games together.

Professionally, Jeanne had a diverse career that began at Travelers Insurance, followed by significant roles at the Duluth Builders Exchange and as the Executive Director of the Arrowhead Builders Association. After a brief stint at Duluth Business University, she returned to the insurance field, ultimately retiring from State Farm Insurance in 2016.

Jeanne was a beacon of kindness and class, remembered fondly by friends and family for her ability to make everyone feel welcome and special. She had a passion for the symphony and theater, and her legacy is filled with the love she gave selflessly.

Jeanne is survived by her son Ryan, daughter-in-law Andrea, grandsons Alex and Eli, siblings Zillah and LeVere “Sun” Sizer, and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, and other loved ones.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 8th, at Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM. Guests are invited to share stories and honor Jeanne’s memory during a gathering featuring appetizers and treats after the service.
