UPDATE: John Joseph Matwijcow III, age 59, of The Villages, Florida, has passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026. The community mourns the loss of a gentle spirit known for his enthusiasm for life and deep connections with those around him.
Born on January 16, 1966, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Matwijcow spent his early life in South Plainfield, New Jersey. He later lived in Bridgewater, New Jersey, and in Nazareth and Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, before relocating to Florida in January 2025. His journey was marked by a commitment to community and meaningful engagement, notably through his participation in the Special Olympics and supported services via THE ARC.
John was a beacon of joy, bringing smiles and warmth to everyone he met. He had an immense appreciation for music, particularly the works of Elvis Presley, and enjoyed watching television game shows and westerns. His passion for coloring and creating art showcased his vibrant personality. Known for his love of Italian cuisine, he also had a special fondness for McDonald’s, which always delighted him.
John is survived by his loving sisters, Kimberly Ann Matwijcow Kopke and Jessica Ann Matwijcow Clark, who served as his primary caregiver, along with a close-knit family who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph Matwijcow, Jr. and Patricia Ann Cirigliano Matwijcow, as well as his mentor and brother, Joseph Matika.
The family has announced that a Celebration of Life will be held in the near future, with details to be confirmed. Community members and loved ones are encouraged to come together to honor John’s legacy, reflecting on the joy he brought into their lives.
