Beloved Engineer Alexander J. Yerman Passes Away at 99

BREAKING: Alexander J. Yerman, a cherished family man and distinguished engineer, has passed away at Albany Medical Center in Schenectady, NY, on January 28, 2026, at the remarkable age of 99. His legacy of kindness and extraordinary achievements leaves a profound impact on all who knew him.

Born on August 3, 1926, in Wilmerding, PA, Yerman dedicated his life to both family and career, showcasing a steadfast commitment to excellence. He was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946, and later graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Tech in 1950.

Yerman’s professional journey spanned an impressive 41 years at General Electric, where he made significant contributions at the General Engineering Lab and Corporate Research Lab. Colleagues remember him as not only a brilliant engineer but also as a mentor and friend, exemplifying dedication to his craft.

His personal life was equally remarkable. Yerman met his beloved wife, Ellen Quinn, through a Great Books Program at the Schenectady Public Library. They married in 1955 and shared a joyful life together until Ellen’s passing in 1994. The couple raised a close-knit family, including their daughter Fran Cullen, who described her father as a pillar of strength and inspiration.

Yerman is survived by his daughter Fran, son-in-law Michael, and grandchildren Patrick, Eric, Ciara, and Stratton. He is also remembered by his sister Virginia Mains, sister-in-law Thresa Yerman, daughter-in-law Shari Yerman, and numerous nieces and nephews. His life’s work extended beyond engineering; he was a lifetime learner with a passion for reading, inspiring those around him to embrace knowledge.

Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, located at 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville. Following the service, interment will occur at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
