BREAKING: Bemidji Fire Chief Justin Sherwood has just been awarded the prestigious 2025 Leadership Award from the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association (MSFCA). Since taking the helm as chief in 2021, after joining the department in 2002, Sherwood has been a driving force for innovation and community partnership. Earlier this year, Sherwood secured a scholarship to attend the Congressional Fire Services Institute Symposium in Washington, D.C., further showcasing his commitment to the field. Bullen noted, “Chief Sherwood fit in seamlessly with our legislative committee, advocating for greater Minnesota.”
In addition to his advocacy work, Sherwood’s leadership was crucial following the devastating storm that struck on June 21. He swiftly organized a response to an overwhelming call volume and activated the Intrastate Mutual Aid Plan, allowing resources from across the state to assist. This timely action helped his staff manage personal property losses while ensuring community safety.
