UPDATE: Just announced, brothers Jj and Emmanuel Arciga have launched an innovative app called Dibbs that promises to revolutionize how consumers connect with local businesses in Chico, California. This groundbreaking platform allows users to “call dibs” on exclusive deals without any upfront fees for businesses.
The Arciga brothers aim to support local establishments by eliminating advertising costs and providing customers with special discounts. “We’ve partnered with 30 local businesses so far and are striving to make this the go-to app for everything local,” said Jj Arciga. Users can browse deals, pay just 10% upfront to secure their offer, and pay the remaining balance when they redeem the deal at the business.
Launched in beta shortly after Christmas, Dibbs has already attracted more than 400 users, with new registrations pouring in weekly. “The reception has been amazing,” Jj added. The app is designed to be user-friendly, and the brothers are currently fine-tuning the redemption process while integrating AI technology to enhance the experience.
Why This Matters NOW: In an era where small businesses face increasing challenges, Dibbs offers a lifeline. The app allows businesses to receive payment directly from customers, bypassing traditional waiting periods for checks. “The business never waits for a check from us. They get their money when customers come in,” Jj emphasized. This model not only supports local economies but also builds community ties.
The Arciga brothers’ journey began with a vision to uplift local businesses. After facing setbacks during the 2017 Tubbs Fire that destroyed Emmanuel’s sporting goods store, they brainstormed solutions to help small business owners. “I wanted to create something that helps both businesses and consumers,” Emmanuel shared.
Despite lacking software engineering experience, the brothers persevered, and by late 2023, Dibbs was ready for its beta launch. Jj, initially pursuing a degree in animal science, shifted his focus to entrepreneurship, realizing the potential of the app. “I put all my effort into it to see how far we could take it,” he said.
The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with users eager to access the “secret menu” of exclusive deals. Emmanuel stated, “Seeing people in the Chico community actually use Dibbs and positively affect the businesses — that’s everything.”
Looking ahead, the Arcigas plan to expand Dibbs beyond Chico to other cities in California and eventually across the nation. “We’re convinced that if we can make it work in Chico, we can make it work anywhere,” Emmanuel asserted.
Next Steps: As they prepare for the official launch in March 2024, the brothers are committed to refining the app and ensuring that local businesses benefit fully from this innovative platform. They invite both consumers and business owners to join as beta users, aiming to create a thriving ecosystem that supports local commerce.
