UPDATE: A Cleveland Heights man, aged 36, has turned himself in to authorities after allegedly being involved in a serious hit-skip incident on November 5, 2023. The incident, which occurred on September 22 on I-271, resulted in a three-car crash that was captured on a dashboard camera.
The shocking footage shows the suspect veering into traffic in a construction zone before the Cedar Road exit, causing significant chaos. Fortunately, the other two drivers involved suffered minor injuries. The police report indicates that the suspect fled the scene, prompting investigators to post the license plate on social media, which garnered a staggering 450,000 hits on the police department’s Facebook page by November 7.
Authorities had previously requested the driver to come in for questioning, but he initially declined, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. The suspect claims he is not to blame, arguing that another vehicle rear-ended his BMW SUV during the incident. However, police clarified that this defense does not hold when a driver cuts off another vehicle and causes a collision.
The accident caused a Subaru SUV to be knocked into the adjacent lane, where it was struck by an oncoming minivan. Following the crash, the suspect also received citations for a marked lanes violation and an unsafe lane change. He has been released on a personal bond and will face legal proceedings at Shaker Heights Municipal Court.
In related news, another hit-and-run incident occurred on November 4 at Lander Circle. A truck reportedly collided with a vehicle while navigating the traffic circle, causing the car’s airbags to deploy; however, the driver of that vehicle was unharmed. Investigators are tracing the truck’s license plate, which is linked to a business, to identify the responsible driver.
Emergency responders were also dispatched to a house fire alarm on November 6 at Chestnut Lane. Upon arrival, firefighters noticed a haze inside the home after receiving no response at the door. A forced entry revealed a pot left cooking on the stove, but thankfully, there was no significant damage, and the homeowner arrived shortly after.
