UPDATE: The Stewartville community has rallied to raise over $25,000 for families affected by a tragic shooting that occurred on December 12, 2025. A GoFundMe campaign initiated by the Stewartville Wrestling Booster Club has surpassed its initial goal of $22,000, reflecting the community’s urgent support following this devastating incident.

The shooting took place early Friday morning around 5 a.m. in the parking lot of Stewartville High School, just as the school’s wrestling team was preparing for a tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota. During the chaos, a student was critically injured, and an adult male was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials have not released the names or ages of the individuals involved as of Sunday evening.

In a heartfelt statement posted on Facebook, the Stewartville Wrestling Booster Club expressed their sorrow:

“On behalf of the Stewartville Wrestling Booster Club, we are deeply saddened by the tragic event that occurred in our community. Our hearts are with the victims, their families, friends, coaches, and everyone affected.”

They emphasized the importance of community support during this challenging time, urging residents to look out for one another.

Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson confirmed that investigations into the shooting are ongoing. “We don’t know anything that led up to this at all, at this point,” he stated during a press conference on Friday. An additional press briefing is expected on Monday to provide more details.

The community’s response has been immense, with various local programs stepping up to assist. Competing wrestling teams from Dover-Eyota, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Century, and Mayo have contributed hundreds of dollars. Notably, the Clash National Wrestling Duals made a significant impact with a $1,000 donation.

Donations can continue to be made online through the GoFundMe page or in person at any Eagle Rock Bank branch. Contributors can reference the “Stewartville Wrestling Benefit Account” to support the affected families directly. Furthermore, Full Court Custom Apparel Inc. has pledged to donate 100% of proceeds from shirt sales to assist the victims’ families.

With the community still reeling from this horrific event, residents are encouraged to come together and provide support. The ongoing fundraising efforts are a testament to Stewartville’s resilience and unity in the face of tragedy. As more information unfolds, the community remains hopeful for healing and recovery.
