Evesham Township Celebrates Successful Inaugural Italian Festival

UPDATE: Evesham Township has just wrapped up its inaugural Italian Heritage Street Festival, a vibrant celebration that drew significant community support on November 1, 2023. The festival, taking place along Cooper Avenue between Main Street and Route 70, attracted a large crowd eager to embrace and honor the rich culture of Italian Americans.

This groundbreaking event is noted as one of the few Italian heritage festivals held by a township in Burlington County in recent years, marking a momentous occasion for the local community. Attendees indulged in an array of authentic Italian culinary delights from numerous vendors, including hot wood-fired pizza, savory pasta dishes, and delectable treats like cannoli and cookies.

Local vendors showcased unique Italian-themed merchandise, generating impressive sales. Community organizations, such as the Knights of Columbus Council #12229 and the Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge 2315, provided valuable insights into Italian heritage, reinforcing the festival’s educational aspect. Guests participated in a captivating activity, placing pins on a large map of Italy to represent their family origins, igniting conversations about the diverse roots of Evesham residents.

The festival also featured a stunning performance by the Vivaci Philadelphia dancers, who brought the vibrancy of Italian tradition to life through captivating movement and music. A popular Wine Tasting area, supported by the Marlton Business Association and Wineworks, further enriched the experience for festival-goers.

Evesham Township’s Mayor Jaclyn Veasy expressed her pride in the community’s enthusiastic participation, declaring the event a new tradition for the township. “I am incredibly proud to see Evesham embrace this new tradition with such warmth and enthusiasm,” Mayor Veasy stated. “This festival was more than just fun and food; it’s a testament to our ongoing effort to highlight and celebrate the many diverse cultures and backgrounds that make our township such a wonderful place to live.”

Additional township leadership, including Deputy Mayor Dr. Krystal Hunter and Council members Heather Cooper, Joe Fisicaro, Jr., and Christian Smith, joined Mayor Veasy at the festival. They were accompanied by Burlington County officials, including Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel, Commissioner Randy Brolo, and Sheriff James Kostoplis.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive reception and success of the event, Evesham Township looks forward to hosting an even larger celebration next year. With the community’s enthusiastic support, the Italian Heritage Street Festival is poised to become a cherished annual tradition that honors the vibrant culture and contributions of Italian Americans in the area.
