URGENT UPDATE: A group of dedicated fathers in Dallas has just gifted a brand-new white Jeep to Trecia Crawford, the beloved crossing guard at Moss Haven Elementary. This heartwarming act comes after Crawford faced significant challenges commuting to work following the breakdown of her car.
Crawford, known affectionately as Ms. Crawford, has been a constant presence at Moss Haven, greeting students and parents each morning and afternoon. Her commitment to student safety has left a lasting impact on the community. “She probably knows more parents out here on a first-name basis than a lot of other people,” said Marcus Walther, a father in the school district.
However, approximately five months ago, Crawford’s car broke down, forcing her to rely on rideshare services and public transportation. “I was Lyfting here. Then, when I ran out of money on the Lyft, I had to get on the bus,” she recounted. The situation was dire for the beloved crossing guard, who had to juggle her job and the financial burden of commuting.
Upon learning about her struggles, the Dads Club at Moss Haven sprang into action. Within just a couple of days, they raised over $3,000 to help get Crawford back on the road. “We knew that she needed a car, and it took a couple of months to find it and put it together,” said Adam Tharp, one of the fathers involved.
The emotional moment of handing over the keys to the Jeep unfolded recently, bringing smiles and tears to those involved. “You see them every morning, every afternoon. Whether it’s a ‘Hi,’ or a hug, or a fist bump, you start to get to know someone on more than just a casual basis,” Walther added, highlighting the deep connection the community shares with Crawford.
In addition to the vehicle, the Dads Club is also assisting Crawford with her insurance and routine maintenance costs, understanding that the financial burden of a new car can be overwhelming. This remarkable gesture reflects the power of community support during challenging times.
As the school community celebrates this uplifting moment, it serves as a reminder of the impact one individual can have and the lengths others will go to support them. The Dads Club’s efforts not only improved Crawford’s daily commute but reinforced the bonds within the Moss Haven community.
Stay tuned for further developments as the Dads Club continues to make a positive difference at Moss Haven Elementary.
