UPDATE: The inaugural Chico Community Gingerbread House Contest is underway, showcasing a delightful array of edible architecture! This exciting competition launched today at the Museum of Northern California Art, drawing participants from as young as six years old to seasoned adults.
Seven unique entries, each crafted with at least 80% edible materials, are on display, representing the creativity and spirit of the Chico community. Contestants have transformed iconic local structures, including the El Rey Theater, a childhood home, and a whimsical sugar wonderland, into breathtaking gingerbread masterpieces.
The winners of this sweet showdown will be announced during a reception at the museum from 3 to 4 p.m. today. A dedicated panel of judges will evaluate the entries based on several criteria, including best in category, best overall, and a special people’s choice award.
Pat Macias, Executive Director of the museum, highlighted the contest’s inspiration, which stems from the renowned National Gingerbread House Competition in Asheville, North Carolina. This event not only showcases the culinary arts but also fosters community engagement and creativity.
