Jeremy Zoll Steps Up as Twins’ New Baseball Operations Leader

The Minnesota Twins have announced that Jeremy Zoll will take on the primary decision-making role in the team’s baseball operations following the departure of Derek Falvey as president of baseball and business operations. This leadership change comes as the team prepares for spring training, with pitchers and catchers set to report on March 7, 2024.

Falvey’s exit from the organization was described as a “mutual” decision, prompting the Twins to initiate a search for a new leader on the business side. Meanwhile, Zoll, who has been with the franchise since 2017, will now assume full responsibility for baseball operations, building on his previous role as general manager under Falvey.

Transitioning Leadership in the Twins’ Organization

The 35-year-old Zoll has steadily advanced through the ranks, beginning his career with the Twins as the director of minor league operations before becoming assistant general manager and then general manager. As executive chair, Tom Pohlad expressed his total confidence in Zoll’s capabilities, stating, “We lucked out with Jeremy Zoll being in this position right now to be able to have the continuity and stability in our baseball department.” He characterized Zoll as “aggressive, decisive, and very competitive.”

With this promotion, Zoll will now also liaise with ownership, a duty previously held by Falvey since his appointment in 2016. While Falvey had Thad Levine as his general manager for most of his tenure, Zoll has yet to appoint a second in command. Instead, he plans to collaborate closely with the team’s assistant general managers and other key personnel.

“We’re all just going to roll up our sleeves and lean in a little bit further,” Zoll remarked. He emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach, indicating that the team leaders will engage in daily check-ins to streamline operations and tackle upcoming challenges together.

Challenges Ahead for the Twins

As Zoll prepares to assume his new responsibilities, he faces considerable challenges. The Twins have struggled in recent seasons, finishing in fourth place in their division for the past two years. Pohlad has publicly set expectations for the team to be competitive by the 2026 season, despite a reduced payroll compared to the previous year. Strengthening the bullpen is a priority as the Twins look to shore up their roster.

“I have the utmost belief in Jeremy Zoll,” Falvey stated. He praised Zoll’s passion, work ethic, and relationship-building skills, indicating that he remains a resource for Zoll as he navigates his new role. “I think he’s perfectly conditioned to take on whatever the next steps are.”

The Twins will need to act quickly as they finalize their roster ahead of the upcoming season, and with Zoll at the helm, the organization aims to regain its competitive edge in Major League Baseball.
