BREAKING: John A. Pickar, a cherished member of the Duluth community, has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 62. He died on October 14, 2025, just 11 days after celebrating his birthday, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and camaraderie.
Born on October 3, 1963, in Duluth, Minnesota, John was a graduate of East High School and held a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). He dedicated much of his career to Great Lakes Office Solutions and was an active member of the Rotary Club, impacting many lives through his community service.
John’s sudden passing has sent shockwaves through his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Peg Pickar; siblings Christine Beck, Bruce (Amber) Pickar, and Andrew (Kate) Pickar; along with several beloved nieces and nephews. His father, Arthur Pickar, preceded him in death.
Known for his infectious humor and warm spirit, John was a friend to everyone he met. He had a passion for outdoor activities, including snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. His annual fishing opener with friends was a cherished tradition, and he found joy in quiet moments spent at the deer shack in Finland.
John’s interests extended to collecting old beer cans and memorabilia, where he proudly belonged to the Beer Can Collectors of America. His engaging conversations and willingness to help others made him a beloved figure in the community.
“John could light up any room with his humor and genuine care for others,” said a close friend. “He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.”
A Celebration of John’s life is planned for a later date, with arrangements handled by Dougherty Funeral Home. Friends and family are encouraged to remember John’s legacy by sharing stories and memories.
This sudden loss is a reminder of the profound impact one individual can have on a community. Further details will be shared as they become available, and those wishing to pay their respects are encouraged to reach out to the funeral home for arrangements.
