Judy Parsons Passes Away Peacefully at 92, Leaving a Legacy

UPDATE: Judith Lynn Parsons, a beloved matriarch and community leader, has passed away peacefully at the age of 92 in her home in Soquel, California. Surrounded by her cherished family during a joyful visit, Judy’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and community service.

Born in 1932 to Dorothy Graebe-Zent and Claude Zent in Stockton, California, Judy faced early adversity when her mother passed away from tuberculosis when she was just seven years old. Raised by her grandparents, Hermann and Hermina Graebe, she grew into a strong, independent woman who made significant contributions to her community.

Graduating from Stockton College High School and later from San Jose State University, Judy was an active member of the Chi Omega sorority. She met her husband, Paul Parsons, at Cowell’s Beach, and they married in 1954. The couple moved to Rio Del Mar before settling in Soquel, where they raised three children in a home filled with love and laughter.

Throughout her life, Judy worked for the Girl Scouts and Parks and Recreation before founding the Parsons Insurance Agency in Capitola. Known for her dedication, she helped countless clients with their insurance needs, earning her a place in the hearts of many. Judy and Paul were deeply involved in the Soquel community, contributing to initiatives like the Sportscar Club, First Night, and the Land Trust, which established Anna Jean Cummins Park, also referred to as Blue Ball Park.

A passionate Oakland A’s fan, Judy rarely missed a game with Paul, showcasing their unwavering support for their team. The couple was known as “the BEST grandparents,” actively participating in their grandchildren’s lives. Summer trips to the family cabin at Woods Lake and adventures to casinos in Nevada were among the many cherished memories they created together.

Judy’s commitment to progressive politics was evident in her support for local candidates and community causes. She traveled extensively with Paul, returning home with stories and gifts from their journeys across Central and South America, the Caribbean, and even a safari in Africa during their late 80s.

Judy is survived by her three children, Randall Parsons (Alison), Stacey Ely (Skip), and Pepe Parsons (Amy D), as well as her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, who passed away in May 2025, holding her hand.

In honor of Judy’s commitment to community service, family asks that donations be made to a favorite charity. A heartfelt thank you is extended to her close friends and caregivers, including Pat Poulos, Jean Tarr, and the extraordinary team of VNA nurses.

Family and friends will celebrate Judy’s remarkable life during the upcoming holidays, ensuring her spirit will live on in the hearts of all she touched. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for her community will be remembered for generations to come.
