Liberty Completes Cave Rock Project, Boosting Reliability, Safety

UPDATE: Liberty has just completed the Cave Rock Underground Project in South Lake Tahoe, a crucial initiative aimed at enhancing service reliability and significantly reducing wildfire risks. This project represents a monumental step towards creating a safer environment for the community, particularly in a region known for its stunning old pines and rich community spirit.

The completion was confirmed earlier today, with Liberty announcing the installation of 745 feet of underground primary lines and 832 feet of underground secondary lines. Additionally, 435 feet of new overhead secondary lines were added, along with the installation of 8 new poles. These upgrades are designed not only to modernize the existing grid but also to minimize visual impact and environmental disruption for the residents.

Most importantly, the project addresses the pressing need to reduce wildfire risks. Liberty crews have successfully removed 18 tree attachments and replaced 1,100 feet of covered overhead secondary wires. This new infrastructure is specifically engineered to lower the risk of fire ignitions, a critical concern for residents in this fire-prone area.

In a bid to protect the environment and the historical landscape, Liberty arborists collaborated with civil crews to ensure the preservation of the neighborhood’s cherished old pines. Construction methods primarily involved hand-digging and the use of Vactor trucks, preserving root systems and safeguarding these valuable trees.

Community involvement played a key role throughout the project. Liberty worked closely with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and local residents, conducting onsite field walks with Homeowners Association (HOA) board members. This collaboration ensured that community standards were met and that resident concerns were adequately addressed each step of the way.

Liberty’s commitment to providing safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible service is exemplified by the Cave Rock Underground Project. As officials emphasize, this project is just one of many initiatives aimed at investing in the community’s future and enhancing the quality of life for all customers.

This development is sure to resonate with residents and environmental advocates alike, as it highlights the balance between infrastructure modernization and ecological preservation. As wildfire seasons grow increasingly severe, such proactive measures are crucial for ensuring community safety and service reliability.

Stay tuned for more updates as Liberty continues its efforts to enhance infrastructure and safety in South Lake Tahoe and beyond.
