Mary Ingleby, Beloved Educator and Advocate, Passes Away at 75

UPDATE: Mary Ruth Ingleby, a cherished educator and advocate, has passed away peacefully at the age of 75 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Ingleby died in her sleep, leaving behind a legacy that touched countless lives.
Born on June 22, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Ingleby was the third of six children in her family. Her early life was marked by significant challenges, including her heartbreaking decision to place her first child for adoption at just sixteen years old. This pivotal moment ignited a lifelong passion for teaching, particularly in early childhood education.
After earning an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Cabrillo College, Ingleby dedicated many years to nurturing young minds, teaching children aged three to five. One of her proudest achievements was inspiring her second son, Damian, who carries forward her love for reading and learning.
A vibrant soul, Ingleby spent 53 years in the coastal community of Santa Cruz, where her love for the ocean flourished. She was not only a passionate educator but also a fierce advocate for animal rights and minority causes, dedicating her time and resources to these important issues.
Music was another defining element of her life. Ingleby participated in various choirs and musical duos, ensuring that melodies filled her home and heart. Tragically, she lost her first child, Bill, who passed away in his mid-30s, but she found solace in their later reconnection, cherishing the time they spent together.
Ingleby is survived by her second son, Damian, and her younger sister, Colette. A small memorial gathering is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 12 PM at Seacliff State Beach. Friends and family are encouraged to join in celebrating her remarkable life. For more information, contact 406-552-9696 or email [email protected].
