Monroe County DA Brian Green Unveils New Vision Amid Transition

UPDATE: Monroe County District Attorney Brian Green has just announced his vision for transforming the DA’s office, marking a pivotal moment in law enforcement for Rochester, NY. Following his appointment by Gov. Kathy Hochul nearly a month ago, Green is focused on restoring community trust and improving office operations.
In an exclusive interview on October 21, 2025, Green emphasized the urgent need for a cultural shift within the office. “I never had big dreams to be the district attorney,” he stated. “What I wanted to do was come back to the office to try to effect change.” His appointment comes after the controversial resignation of former DA Sandra Doorley, who stepped down amidst public scrutiny over a traffic stop incident.
Green is tasked with addressing a backlog of cases—over 300 cases from his previous role as a town justice in Irondequoit have been reassigned to special prosecutors due to conflict of interest rules. He explained, “It was about 75 cases being handled downtown and roughly 300 in the town of Irondequoit.”
His main focus is to cultivate transparency and accountability within the office. “By handling cases appropriately and telling the public you know what’s going on,” Green plans to regain the community’s trust, referencing the recent dismissal of the Kuhn indictment in a high-profile cold case.
Green recognized the challenges ahead, acknowledging that he might have to navigate political pressures but insists that his role must remain nonpartisan. “I fully understand that I have to be a politician in order to keep this job, but this is not a political office,” he asserted.
Currently, Green is prioritizing staffing, with seven assistant DA positions still vacant. He plans to lead by example, saying, “I will make sure that everybody in the office is acting ethically and professionally.”
As Green embarks on this new chapter, the community watches closely for the changes he will implement. His leadership could redefine the Monroe County District Attorney’s office, making it more responsive and transparent to public needs.
Stay tuned for ongoing updates as Brian Green implements his vision for a stronger, more accountable legal system in Monroe County.
