URGENT UPDATE: National Drug Take Back Day is rapidly approaching, set for October 25, 2023, with multiple agencies teaming up this weekend to ensure safe disposal of unused or expired medications. This critical initiative aims to combat prescription drug abuse and protect our communities.

In Beaufort County, residents can participate on October 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bluffton Kroger, located at 27 Discovery Dr. Law enforcement will be on-site to accept unwanted pills, liquids, gels, and patches. This event is organized in partnership with the Cardinal Health Foundation.

Meanwhile, in Chatham County, a drive-thru disposal event is scheduled for October 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the West Chatham YMCA, located at 165 Isaac G. Laroche Dr. in Pooler. This initiative, supported by Memorial Health Hospital, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, and HCA Healthcare, allows for anonymous disposal of medications.

In Toombs County, residents can drop off medications on October 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office, located at 357 NW Broad St., Suite #1 in Lyons. Please note that needles and liquids cannot be accepted at this location.

This event is crucial for safeguarding our communities and preventing prescription drug misuse. With the ongoing opioid crisis, initiatives like this are vital for public health.

Make sure to mark your calendars and participate in these events this weekend to help dispose of medications safely. Share this information with friends and family to spread the word about the importance of responsible medication disposal.

Stay tuned for updates, as more drop-off locations may be announced. Your participation can make a significant difference!
