This business, located on Hwy 00, aims to provide discounted new retail items while employing 8-10 individuals with varying abilities.
Following the ceremony, Chris Reagan, founder of Purchase for a Purpose, guided local dignitaries—including Missouri State Representatives Dale Wright and Tony Harbison—on a tour of several key community facilities, emphasizing the urgent need for support and funding in the area.
The tour began at the Fredericktown Senior Center, where Crystal Sherrick, Director of the center, highlighted critical financial challenges. Currently, the center faces a budget deficit, with each meal costing $9.23, while only receiving $6.00 in reimbursement. Sherrick expressed gratitude for local businesses that have helped keep the center operational, but stressed the need for a permanent solution.
Next, the group visited the Madison County Workshop, where Debby Boone showcased the thriving thrift store. Boone and her colleague Diana McDaniel have transformed the workshop into a community hub through strategic organization and employee empowerment. The facility promotes camaraderie among its workers, enhancing their quality of life.
At Wagner Residential Care, owner Teena Wagner welcomed the representatives and shared insights about the living conditions in her 40-bed facility. Residents were eager to meet the visitors before their Christmas party, showcasing the festive spirit of the season.
The final stop was Madison County Recovery Allies, where Executive Director Karen Moser reported a significant decrease in overdose cases since the organization opened three years ago. Moser and her team discussed funding sources, particularly the Opioid Crisis Funds that have been instrumental in supporting their initiatives. However, they underscored the pressing need for additional resources to continue their mission of reuniting families and improving lives in the community.
