This victory marks Olympian’s first championship since securing three consecutive titles from **2014 to 2016**. “Defense wins games,” said Coach Yvette Macias, emphasizing the relentless effort that propelled her team to victory. The Eagles rallied behind standout performances, including **13 kills** from middle hitter Jade Araujo, while teammates Annabelle Johnson and Nyssa Dickson contributed nine kills each.
The match began with El Camino taking an early lead, winning the first set **25-20**. However, Olympian quickly shifted momentum, showcasing a powerful defense and a consistent attack that left the Wildcats struggling. “We think of the future when we’re playing,” said senior libero Keilana Cruz, highlighting her team’s mental resilience.
El Camino’s Coach Alex Pukahi praised his team’s achievements despite the loss, noting they won over **30 games** this season and claimed a league title, a remarkable feat for a program with limited club player experience.
In a parallel championship, Santa Fe Christian dominated the Division II final, defeating Patrick Henry with a decisive score of **25-12, 25-13, 25-19**. Freshman star Nariah Johnson led the Eagles with **19 kills**, showcasing a well-rounded attack that kept the Patriots on their heels.
Coach Megan Lawley emphasized the importance of utilizing their middle players, stating, “If we want to win a championship, we’ve got to use our middles.” This strategic shift proved effective, with seniors Mali Carroll and Autumn Ermanis contributing key plays.
Despite the loss, Patrick Henry’s Coach David Chau expressed pride in his team’s journey, remarking, “Regardless of results, I’m extremely proud of the work it took to get here.”
