Peabody Police Rescue Two Dairy Cows on Buxton Lane

UPDATE: Peabody Police have successfully escorted two dairy cows back to their home after the animals enjoyed an unsupervised stroll down Buxton Lane in central Peabody earlier today, January 24. The cows, who escaped from Dunajski Dairy, were quickly located by responding officers.

Officer Will DeRoo, affectionately nicknamed “Officer DeMoo” for his endearing approach to the situation, was the first on the scene. “Once I saw them, I got out of the car and just kind of did what I do with my animals when they don’t listen. I just call and make weird noises until they follow me,” DeRoo stated.

The viral moment was captured in a video shared by the Peabody Police, showing DeRoo making playful noises to guide the cows back home. Since its posting, the video has garnered widespread attention, with DeRoo receiving numerous messages from friends and family celebrating his newfound fame. “Everyone’s been seeing me on the news. My mom’s super happy, which makes me happy,” he said.

DeRoo also shared valuable lessons learned from the incident. “Teamwork makes the dream work. The other guys that I was with helped me a lot, too. They were behind the cows. They just were not in the video,” he noted, praising his colleagues for their role in the rescue.

However, Officer DeRoo cautioned against getting too close to the cows. “While they were very cute, cows are pretty unpredictable, and I don’t want to go out injured,” he advised. His experience with this unique call was both memorable and lighthearted, stating, “It was a good time. Something like that makes the shift more fun and lightens the moo-d.”

This incident not only highlights the lighter side of police work but also emphasizes the importance of community engagement and teamwork during unexpected situations.

As the video continues to circulate, many in the community are celebrating this amusing yet heartwarming rescue, proving that sometimes, a little humor can go a long way in brightening everyone’s day.
