URGENT UPDATE: A person of interest in a deadly shooting at an IHOP in Richmond has shot himself outside the San Pablo Police Department. This shocking incident unfolded just after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday when police responded to reports of a gunshot.
According to officials from the Richmond and San Pablo police departments, officers heard a single gunshot in the parking lot. San Pablo Police Captain James Laughter confirmed, “We then located a male subject lying on the ground with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” The individual was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.
The earlier shooting incident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday at an IHOP located in the 3400 block of Klose Way. Reports indicate that the victim and the person of interest were coworkers. Initially, coworkers believed the victim’s injuries were accidental; however, firefighters noticed discrepancies that led them to alert the police. Tragically, the victim succumbed to a gunshot wound at the scene.
Before taking drastic action, the person of interest reportedly approached an officer for assistance, but due to a “language barrier,” he walked away. This raises critical questions about the circumstances leading up to both incidents.
Authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the Richmond shooting or the identity of the individual involved. The investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected as police gather more information.
