Silverthorne Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Sexual Assault of Minor

UPDATE: In a critical development, Jason Brown, a 45-year-old man from Silverthorne, has been sentenced to five years in prison following his guilty plea for sexual assault against a minor. The ruling was handed down on January 26, 2025, after his arrest by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office on October 2, 2024.

Brown pleaded guilty to second-degree assault as part of a plea deal that waived five additional felony sexual assault charges. This case has drawn significant attention due to the alarming details surrounding the incidents, which reportedly involved Brown establishing an inappropriate relationship with an underage individual over a year.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Brown met the victim at a bus stop in Silverthorne and subsequently made over 1,000 calls to them, providing alcohol, cocaine, and ketamine. His actions culminated in multiple assaults, including the drugging of the victim with ketamine to facilitate his crimes.

During the sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Samuel Martinez urged Judge Reed Owens to impose a five-year prison term, reflecting the severity of the crimes. Martinez also presented a statement from the victim related to a separate domestic violence case against Brown, emphasizing the deep emotional scars left by his actions.

Brown, who has been on a $15,000 cash surety bond since his arrest, expressed remorse during the court session, stating he plans to use his time in prison to become a “better person and father.” His defense attorney, Todd Barson, indicated that Brown had been actively involved in childcare and maintained employment prior to his arrest.

In a notable twist, Judge Owens opted to adhere to the plea agreement, allowing for concurrent sentences despite a recommendation for consecutive terms based on Brown’s presentence investigation report. Brown will also receive credit for only three days served while on a GPS monitor, rather than the requested 222 days.

As Brown was taken into custody from the courtroom, the emotional weight of the case resonated within the community, illustrating the profound impact of his actions on the victims involved.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding child safety and the importance of accountability in such serious matters. As discussions continue around the implications of Brown’s actions, authorities are emphasizing the need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals in the community.

With further developments expected in related cases, community members are urged to stay informed and engaged with ongoing legal proceedings.
